The band will attend the home football playoff Vs. Covington High School this Friday, November 9th, 2018. We will not perform at half-time.
Pulaski County Cougar Classic
The Mighty Maroon Band will traveled to Pulaski County this past Saturday, October 27th, 2018 to compete in the Cougar Classic. The band received 1st in Music, Marching, General Effect, Percussion, Color Guard, and Drum Major as well as 1st in Class AAA-1 with a rating of Superior. Congrats!
Assessment/Lord Botetourt Competition
The Mighty Maroon Band traveled to Lynchburg, Virginia on Thursday, October 18th to participate in the State Marching Assessment. They earned a rating of Excellent.
On Saturday, October 20th the band headed to Daleville, Virginia to compete in the Lord Botetourt H.S. Cavalier Classic. They marched away with 1st Place in Drum Major, Percussion, Color Guard, and General Effect & 2nd Place in Music, Marching, and Overall in their Class. The band had the highest Percussion and G.E. score in their division and came in 3rd of all the bands there.

George Wythe Band Festival
The GWHS Mighty Maroon Marching Band hosted 24 bands for the 40th Annual George Wythe Band Festival on Saturday, October 13, 2018. Glenvar Band Competition
Due to field conditions at Glenvar High School, along with Homecoming scheduling, the Mighty Maroon Band WILL NOT attend the Celtic Classic this Saturday, September 29th.
The Band will look into adding a competition on the first Saturday of November to make up for the missed competition.
NAPA Car Wash & Bake Sale
The Band will be doing a Car Wash/Bake Sale on Saturday, September 22nd, 2018 at NAPA Auto Parts in Wytheville. Funds rasied from this fundrasier will go into the general Band Booster account that helps fund all the things the band does throughout the year.

2018 "This Just In" Show Shirts
Show your GW Band Pride with a 2018 GW Show Shirt! This shirt is themed after our 2018 Show "This Just In" and will be worn by the band for all our competitions. Each marcher has already paid for their shirt in their Band Camp Fee. Any additional shirts for family or friends can be purchased for $16. money and order forms are due by this Friday, August 31.
Home FB Game Vs. Radford
The first regular season football game of the season is this Friday night, August 24th, 2018 at 7:00 PM. Come watch the Mighty Maroon Band perform part of their 2018 competition show "This Just In."
MMMB members will meet at 5:30 PM in the Band Room for dinner provided by the GWHS Band Boosters. Members are to wear their maroon football t-shirt, jeans, and tennis shoes.
Beginning Band Instrument Night

Just select an open slot to pick what time you would like to meet with our instrument rental specialists on Thursday, August 23rd in the Scott Memorial Middle School Cafeteria. The original date of Tuesday, August 21st had to be changed due to a scheduling conflict.
Football T-Shirt Orders
Show Your GW Band Pride with a 2018 GW Band Football Shirt! We are now taking orders for the 2018 Football Shirt. The shirts are $16 each and anyone can purchase one. Please make checks out to the George Wythe Band Boosters. Band members who own a shirt from previous years do not need to purchase another one unless they need/want another. Shirt orders are due no later than Wednesday, August 8th. Money is due in by August 20th.
2018 DCI Show
The George Wythe Mighty Maroon Band will be traveling to Winston-Salem, NC on Sunday, July 29 to see the DCI Show Tour of Champions. The Tour of Champions event series is an exciting live entertainment format featuring eight of the top corps from last summer, giving fans the opportunity to immerse themselves in the drum corps experience with exclusive fan-member interaction, pre-show and intermission entertainment, and an en-masse finale on top of the corps' traditional competitive productions. Tickets are $35 and due ASAP.

Winter Band Concert
The 2017 Winter Band Concert will be on Tuesday, December 12 at 7:00 PM in the George Wythe High School Auditorium. The concert will consist of the GWHS Concert Band, GWHS Percussion Ensemble, GWHS Jazz Band, 7th Grade Band, & 6th Grade Beginning Band. Admission to the concert is free. Band Members need to arrive by 6:30 PM and wear their black/white concert attire.

The GWHS Mighty Maroon Marching Band traveled to Pulaski County HS on Saturday, October 28, 2017 to compete in the 3rd Annual Cougar Classic Band Competition. The storms held off long enough for the band to receive 1st Place in Music, Marching, General Effect, Percussion, & Color Guard and 2nd Place in Drum Major. The MMMB finished their season with a Superior Rating, 1st Place in Class AA-2, and Band of the Day. The Mighty Maroon Band finished their season with straight Superiors and undefeated in their class all year. Congrats on a wonderful season!
VBODA State Marching Assessment
The GWHS Mighty Maroon Marching Band traveled to Richlands High School for State Marching Assessment on Saturday, October 21, 2017. The band received a rating of Superior, the first half of their road to becoming a 2018 Virginia Honor Band. Congratulations GWHS Mighty Maroon Marching Band.

Music in the Castle Competition
The GWHS Mighty Maroon Marching Band traveled to Tennessee High School this past Saturday, October 7, 2017 to compete in the Music in the Castle Band Competition. The band received 1st Place in Music, Marching, General Effect, Color Guard, Percussion, & Drum Major. They finished 1st in Class AA-1, congrats Mighty Maroon Marching Band!
Glenvar Band Competition
The GWHS Mighty Maroon Marching Band attended the Glenvar High School Celtic Classic this past Saturday, September 20, 2017. The band marched away with 1st Place in Marching & Color Guard, 2nd Place in Music, General Effect, Percussion, & Drum Major, and 1st Place in Class AAA. The band was also one point away from Band of the Day. Conrats MMMB!

Mighty Maroon Marching Band
As the school year is coming to a close, it is time to start preparing for our 2017-2018 George Wythe Mighty Maroon Marching Band! Congratulations to Hannah (Co-Captain), Kaitya (Co-Captain), Ruby, Sierra, Haley, Kassie, Madison, Lexi, Kendra, & Bailey for making the 2017 Fall Color Guard. Thanks and good job to everyone who came to try out! The first Marching Band practice will be on Tuesday, May 23 after school from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The band picnic will follow right after.
Marching Band Percussion/Color Guard Tryouts
Color Guard & Percussion tryouts will by held on May 2nd, 3rd, & 4th after school until 5:30 PM in the GWHS Band Room for the 2017-2018 edition of the George Wythe Mighty Maroon Marching Band. The Band Picnic & First Practice has been moved to Tuesday, May 23rd from 3:30 PM to 6:00 PM.
2017 Spring Band Concert
The 2017 Spring Band Concert will be held in the GWHS Auditorium on Thursday, April 27th at 7:00 PM. There will be an awards ceremony starting at 6:00 PM. Come out and watch the SMMS 6th Grade Beginning Band, 7th Grade Band, GWHS Percussion Ensemble, & the GWHS Concert Band perform. Admission is to the concert is free. Band students are reminded to wear concert dress. 6th/7th Graders need to report to the Bard Room by 6:30 PM.
Mountain Empire Honor Band
The 2017 Mountain Empire Honor Band will be held this Thursday and Friday at Geroge Wythe High School. Selected students from Wythe, Bland, & Grayson Counties will practice Thursday afternoon, all day Friday, and perform a concert at 7:00 PM Friday night in the GWHS auditorium. Virginia Honor Band
GWHS State Basketball Championship
The GWHS Band will travel to the Siegel Center (VCU) in Richmond this Thursday for the Boys' & GIrls' Basketball State Championship games. The Girls will play Parry McCluer High School @ 2:30 PM and the Boys will play Radford High School @ 4:30 PM. The bus for the game will leave at 7:30 AM and should return around 11:30 PM.
Indoor Competition - Sullivan South Results
Congratulations to the GWHS Indoor Drumline and Winter Guard for a strong showing at their first ever competition show at the Sullivan South High School this past Saturday. The Drumline finished 3rd & the Winter Guard placed 2nd in their class. Both groups will compete at Marion High School on March 25 before heading to championships on April 1st.
There will be a Pre-Assessment Concert on Thursday, March 2 at 7:00 PM at George Wythe High School. The George Wythe High School & Rural Retreat High School Concert Bands will perform in the auditorium followed by performances from the GWHS Winter Guard & Indoor Drumline in the gym. This concert will give the bands a chance to perform their 2017 Concert Assessment music in front of a live audience as well as get some feedback from two invited clinicians. Concert admission is free and everyone is invited to come watch.
Drumline & Winter Guard Schedule
For the remainder of the season, Winter Guard will practice at Spiller on Mondays and Fridays from 4 to 6 PM & Indoor Percussion will practice at George Wythe on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:30 PM. Drumline & Winter Guard will also practice on Saturday, February 25 from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM at George Wythe High School. Battery Percussion 9:00 to 3:00 PM & Pit Percussion 12:00 to 3:00 PM. Drumline will also have a practice on February 27 from 3:30 to 5:30 PM.
Virginia Tech Honor Band Weekend
Selected Band Members will be heading to Virginia Tech on January 20, 2017 for the 20th Annual Virginia Tech Honor Band. Students will audition, be placed in a band, attend rehearsals & clinics, & perform a concert Sunday evening. A detailed information sheet and schedule is attached below. Congratulations to Jared Younger, Ethan Lamrouex, Kaitlyn Farthing, Sophie Saliba, Binal Patel, & Nick Meredith for being nominated to attend.

Playoff Game @ Sussex Central
On Saturday, December 3rd the Mighty Maroon Marching Band will travel to Sussex Central High School for the FB Semi-Finals Playoff Game. We will stop for lunch and dinner on the way to and from the game. Students will need to bring money for these stops.
Due to the game the band will not participate in the Wytheville Christmas Parade and will not have parade practice on Tuesday and Thursday. Indoor Drumline & Winter Guard schedules will adjust accordingly.
