All-District Band
Congratulations to Josh Blankenship (Senior Symphonic), Katie Umbarger (Senior Concert), Kevin Nguyen (Senior Concert), Sarah Bell (Junior Symphonic), Megan Kirby (Junior Concert), Sam Wilner (Junior Concert), & Christal Clarke (Junior Symphonic) for traveling to the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center in Abingdon, VA to participate in All-District Band.
January 24th-26th, 2020
Virginia Tech Honor Band
Congratulations to Kevin Nguyen, Justin Ritz, Madelyn Snow, and Landon Ferguson for making Virginia Tech Honor Band. The four will travel to the campus of Virginia Tech on Friday, January 24th where they will audition and be placed in one of four concert bands. They will then practice and perform a concert on Sunday, January 26th

Virginia H.S. Qualifier
The George Wythe High School Winter Guard participated in their season qualifier and opening competition this past Saturday, January 18th at Virginia High School in Bristol, VA. The guard placed 4th out of 8 other Winter Guards.

Winter Guard/Jazz Band
Jazz Band practice will start after school this coming Tuesday, November 19th and continue to meet each Tuesday. Winter Guard Open Spin will start on Wednesday, November 20th until 5:30 PM and meet each Wednesday.
Anyone interested in participating in either group is welcome to come.

Pulaski Co. Band Competition
The MMMB traveled to Pulaski County High School in Pulaski, VA Saturday, November 2nd to finish up their competition season. They finished 2nd Place in General Effect, Music, Drum Major, & Percussion and 1st Place in Marching & Color Guard.
They placed 2nd Place in Class 3A with a Superior.
October 26th, 2019
William Byrd Competition
The MMMB traveled to Vinton, VA on Saturday, October 26th, 2019 to compete in the William Byrd H.S. Blue Ridge Festival of Bands. The band received 2nd Place in Drum Major, Color Guard, Percussion, General Effect, Marching, & Music. The came in 2nd in Class 3A will a Superior Rating. Congrats!

Lord Botetourt Competition
The MMMB traveled to Dalesville, VA on Saturday, October 19th, 2019 to compete in the Lord Botetourt Cavalier Classic. The band received 1st Place Percussion, 2nd Place Guard, 2nd Color Guard, 2nd Place Marching, 2nd Place Music, 3rd Place Drum Major, 3rd Place General Effect, & 2nd Place Overall in Class 2A-2. Congrats!

Glenvar Band Competition
The MMMB traveled to Glenvar High School in Salem, VA on Saturday, September 28th, 2019 to compete in the Celtic Classic Band Competition. Out of 5 Bands, GW MMMB placed 2nd Place in Guard & Music, as well as 3rd Place in Marching, General Effect, and Overall in 3A. They also received a Superior Rating.

Beginning Band Instruments
Any 6th Grade Band Member who ordered an instrument through Dominion Music will receive their instrument on Wednesday, August 28th in class.
Please talk to or email Mr. Wilner if you are still in need of advice on obtaining an instrument if you have yet to do so.

The 2019 Show Shirts have been ordered. Every member in Marching Band will receive one as a part of their Band Camp Fee.

Meet the Maroons
Meet the Maroons will be held Thursday, August 22nd, 2019 at 6:30 PM in the GWHS Football Stadium. Band Members will attend after their normal 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM After School Practice. The event should end between 7:15 - 7:30 PM.

Band Camp 2019
The Mighty Maroon Marching Band Camp is Monday, July 29th through Thursday, 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM & Friday, August 2nd, 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM @ George Wythe High School.
We will start each bright and early each morning on the Band Practice Field (across from the Central Office Building).

Pool Party & DCI
The GWHS Marching Band Pool Party will be Friday, July 26th from 6:30 PM until 8:30 PM at Evansham. Boys bring chips and Girls bring desserts.

Sunday we will be leaving for the DCI @ 1:00 PM. We will be back late & will message updates on the way back.

Summer MB Practices
Due to the renovation, Summer MB Practices will not start until July 16th. Starting July 16th, we will practice every Tuesday and Wednesday until Pre-Camp. Rookie Marching is 12 to 1 PM, Winds (Brass and Woodwinds) from 1:30 to 3 PM, & Percussion\Guard from 2 to 4 PM.
